Alkekengi (Physalis alkekengi) is a species belonging to the Solanaceae family.
It is best known for its false fruit: the edible orange berry the size of a small cherry is enclosed in an orange-red chalice comparable to a lantern.
It has been used mainly since the Middle Ages to promote the elimination of uric acid, responsible for gout and urinary lithiasis.
The part used for these Alkekenge capsules is the berry.
Particular attention is paid to the harvesting of these berries, which once dehydrated are transformed into powder.
